Download Formats
The main differences between MP3 and WAV/AIFF are the file size and quality. If you are planning to playback your downloads on a device using headphones (such as a portable mp3 player), mp3 format is fine. However, if you plan to burn a CD or play back your music through a proper sound system, we strongly recommend you choose the higher quality versions (WAV for Windows PCs/Linux and AIFF for Macs).

WAV/AIFF format is one of the most detailed and rich of the available digtal music formats on Windows/Mac and Linux PCs. There is no compression (reducing the size of the file) so the audio quality is excellent and is often described as CD quality. Unfortunately, WAV/AIFF files take up a lot more storage space compared to MP3 files and they also take longer to download over the internet. Four or five minutes of WAV/AIFF sound can consume 40–50MB of space. If your internet connection is slower than broadband, we recommend you purchase the CD or opt for MP3 quality instead. Because of its small file size, MP3 files are ideal for downloading quickly and when listening to MP3 using headphones it is difficult to tell the difference in quality that's sacrficied to make the files smaller. The important thing to remember is that to get the song into a small file size, the quality of the audio subsequently decreases. When you play an MP3 file back on a stereo system, the difference in quality to WAV/AIFF or CDs is very noticable. The kbps abbreviation or bitrate stands for Kilobytes Per Second and is related to the quality of the MP3 file. The higher the bitrate - the better the quality. 128kbps is comparable to itunes quality. We also offer better quality MP3 at 320kbps.
